Description
An NIH-funded postdoctoral position available in the Condello Lab for a highly motivated individual to participate in an exciting neurodegenerative disease research program. The successful candidate will investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of AD risk factors, microglia biology and protein aggregation using rodent models, human cell lines and human tissues.
The Condello Lab is the newest independent group within the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND), an established research center rooted in the scientific study of prion diseases and neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease as well as active drug discovery programs. The IND features myriad state-of-the-art instrumentation and core equipment available to all IND investigators and their trainees. To facilitate impactful interdisciplinary research, postdocs will also interact with collaborators in the IND, the Memory and Aging Center (Department of Neurology), the Weill Institute for Neurosciences, and the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI).
Requirements
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree in a research area that may include neuroscience, immunology, molecular biology, cell biology or physiology. Postdoctoral candidates should have a strong publication record and demonstrated ability to work and write independently.
A preferred candidate will have experience in any of the following methodologies: neuronal and/or glial cell culture models; confocal and/or other advanced microscopy techniques (e.g. FLIM or STED); proteomics; transcriptomics; viral vector technology; development/use of genetic animal models; rodent and human neuropathology. Experience in the neurobiology of disease with significant knowledge of neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation is desirable.
Although the project is currently funded, an integral part of postdoctoral training is the process of preparing a research proposal and writing a fellowship application, thus postdocs are expected to apply for external funding as soon as it is practical.
