Ph.D. Studentship - Neuroproteomics
Employer
University of Gothenburg, Sweden
Location
Gothenburg, Sweden
Principal Investigator
Description
The aim of this Ph.D. project is to develop a deeper understanding of AD molecular mechanisms by identifying biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid that reflect specific pathologies, to evaluate their specificity, and to identify the earliest pathological changes of the disease. This will be achieved by performing explorative LC-MS based proteomic analyses of CSF from cohorts of patients with AD and other neurodegenerative disorders, and further characterization of candidate markers by immunoassays and targeted mass spectrometric quantification. Such biomarkers will be important tools for further AD clinical research, and may benefit patients by enabling earlier and more accurate diagnosis.
Through the project, the Ph.D. student will learn about disease mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders, current clinical research, and biomarkers. The student will learn of biological mass spectrometry, immunoassay analysis, methods for protein and peptide sample preparation, and bioinformatics methods for data analysis. The host laboratory provides a stimulating, active, and international research environment, with regular seminars, invited speakers, journal club, and collaborations with research groups in Sweden and abroad.

Requirements
To be eligible for third-cycle studies, the applicant must meet both the general and specific entry requirements.
A person meets the general entry requirements for third-cycle studies if he or she: (1) has been awarded a second-cycle qualification; (2) has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle, or (3) has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad
A person meets the specific entry requirements for third-cycle studies in medical science if he or she has successfully completed the English B/6 course or is considered to have acquired equivalent knowledge through previous studies
