Description
This position reports to the ADCS director, the ADCS special projects lead, and takes direction from other ADCS leadership members, particularly the director of administration and business operations, as needed. The medical and protocol/scientific writer will serve as the medical/scientific research writer for NIH (various RFAs), philanthropic, and industry-sponsored grant/funding submissions. Incumbent will facilitate scientific writing to support the ADCS and its network of sites, and will collaborate with communications teams. Incumbent will organize, analyze, and interpret complex medical, scientific, and/or technical data, to produce clear, cogent, texts, grant narratives, and protocols, by applying knowledge of biological sciences to translate medical, scientific, and technical language into easily understood concepts. Incumbent is responsible for research grant and protocol development with the goal of expanding the coordinating center's research portfolio and industry partnerships. Incumbent will direct the preparation of complex research proposals, and coordination with proposal teams.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
A minimum of five (5+) or more years of scientific writing experience.
Demonstrated experience working in a scientific research environment.
Proven success and skill at researching, analyzing and evaluating information for preparation of grant proposals.
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.
Demonstrated success in researching, analyzing, and evaluating information in preparation for submission of grant proposals and clinical trial protocols.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of technical applications to direct professional technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications. Proven track record with writing and submitting proposals, grant applications, and protocols, particularly related to AD.
Proven knowledge of the organization, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure; strong knowledge of current affairs and issues in higher education and/or health sciences.
Strong skills to create, develop, and implement long and short term strategic communication plans. Ability to appropriately handle highly sensitive and confidential situations and matters with internal and external stakeholders.
Advanced skills to advise and consult management on all aspects of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information.
Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills. Substantial experience in performing complex analysis on policies and programs relating to research and strategic alliances.
Thorough knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.
Proven track record with writing and submitting grant applications, particularly in large science grants (project type grants with multiple projects and cores).
Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
