Description

The Cotman Lab has an open position for an assistant project scientist with expertise in biological sciences, biochemistry, or cell biology. The primary responsibilities include significant and original contribution to a research project in the area of brain aging, Alzheimer's disease, and other age-related dementias. The major goal of the project will focus on characterizing epigenetic changes that regulate cognition in aging and AD mouse models, as well as in human brain tissue. The experimental strategy includes cell-type-specific analysis and molecular characterization of subpopulations of brain cells by biochemical methods including RNA extraction and analysis, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence, biochemical assays, and flow cytometry.

Requirements

The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in neuroscience and experience in brain aging, Alzheimer's disease (AD), and other age-related dementias. The person in the position should have strong experience working with human brain samples, cultured neurons, and transgenic mice. Research training should also include experience in the evaluation of behavior in rodents including learning and memory tasks. Applicants must have a strong publication record in top-ranked journals, advanced writing skills, and many years of experience with grant writing, including R01 grants. The position requires strong organizational skills and must be able to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and to manage scientific projects within a complex organization; therefore, excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills are essential.
